چکیده

We calculate the rates of formation and detection of ultracold Cs2 molecules obtained from the photoassociation of ultracold atoms through the doublewell 0−g (6S1/2 + 6P3/2) state. We concentrate on two features previously observed experimentally and attributed to tunneling between the two wells [Vatasescu et al 2000 Phys. Rev. A 61 044701]. We show that the molecules obtained are in strongly bound levels (v = 5, 6) of the metastable aΣu (6S1/2+6S1/2) ground electronic state. Submitted to: J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Phys. Electrostatic Trapping of Ultracold Polar Molecules

This thesis describes the progress made in the production, spectroscopic characterization, and confinement of ultracold, polar NaCs molecules. A two-species magneto-optical trap (MOT) for the simultaneous cooling and trapping of sodium and cesium atoms is utilized for the creation of ultracold NaCs molecules via photoassociation. The molecules are detected via resonance-enhanced multi-photon io...

Giant formation rates of ultracold molecules via Feshbach-optimized photoassociation.

Ultracold molecules offer a broad variety of applications, ranging from metrology to quantum computing. However, forming "real" ultracold molecules, i.e., in deeply bound levels, is a very difficult proposition. Here, we show how photoassociation in the vicinity of a Feshbach resonance enhances molecular formation rates by several orders of magnitude. We illustrate this effect in heteronuclear ...

Optimizing the photoassociation of cold atoms by use of chirped laser pulses

Photoassociation of ultracold atoms induced by chirped picosecond pulses is analyzed in a nonperturbative treatment by following the wavepackets dynamics on the ground and excited surfaces. The initial state is described by a Boltzmann distribution of continuum scattering states. The chosen example is photoassociation of cesium atoms at temperature T=54 μK from the aΣ u (6s, 6s) continuum to bo...

Molecular physics. Production of trilobite Rydberg molecule dimers with kilo-Debye permanent electric dipole moments.

Permanent electric dipole moments are important for understanding symmetry breaking in molecular physics, control of chemical reactions, and realization of strongly correlated many-body quantum systems. However, large molecular permanent electric dipole moments are challenging to realize experimentally. We report the observation of ultralong-range Rydberg molecules with bond lengths of ~100 nan...

Cold molecules formation by shaping with light the short-range interaction between cold atoms: photoassociation with strong laser pulses

The paper investigates cold molecules formation in the photoassociation of two cold atoms by a strong laser pulse applied at short interatomic distances, which lead to a molecular dynamics taking place in the light-induced (adiabatic) potentials. A two electronic states model in the cesium dimer is used to analyse the effects of this strong coupling regime and to show specific results: i) accel...
